Pattern: Orchid Scarf web Rav
Yarn: Handmaiden Sea Silk
Colorway: Bronze
Purchased at: Lettuce Knit
Date Started: 7 November 2007
Date Finished: 10 February 2009
This is the yarn I bought as a pick me up when we were in Toronto for my dad's funeral. Our visit was filled with arrangements and questions and packing his hotel room and I needed to get away. So while the rest of my family went to the police station to gather my dad's things, I ran away to Lettuce Knit and stared blankly at all the yarn-y goodness for the better part of an hour.
I immediately cast on for this scarf thinking of my step mom (the one married to my mom, not the one married to my dad). I burned through the first half and then put it down until the beginning of February. My step mom's birthday is coming up and I was trying to decide what to knit for her when I remembered this and picked it up again.
I think she'll like it.

Cowl Love
Seriously, I know you've seen cowl all over the place. I am officially declaring this the year of the cowl.
Well I am a girl who loves a fast knit so I whipped up a couple myself.

Needles: 10.5 US, 6.5mm
Knit in one day for the Yankee swap at work.
Pattern: Col GC Ravelry Google Docs
Yarn: Lion Brand Thick & Quick
Needles: US11, 8mm
Modifications: Moved up in needle size to a US11 from a US10.5. Knit in the round instead of flat. Cast on 70 sts instead of 86.
I realized I will not have the Loop Shawl done for Solstice this weekend so I will give it to my stepmom for her birthday in February. Now she'll be getting a cowl for Solstice.
Only one more knit to finish before we open presents on Saturday...

Koolhaas Luke
I bet you didn't think I knit anymore. Well I do but it's summer so I've been a slacker when it come to blogging. As always you can find me at Ravelry if you're really missing me. But don't give up on me yet...Look, an FO!

I love this hat. I made one for my sister this past Solstice and have been hanging on to the yarn to make one for myself. It waaay to hot to wear it yet but I'll be nice and snug come winter.

Lacking a Title
I can't come up with a title for this post.
I am finally done with the Baby Surprise Jacket I've been knitting for my daughter's new baby brother (due in 2 weeks). I loved the pattern and the yarn but it took awhile to finish because it was just hard to get into knitting something for my ex and his wife. But it made my daughter happy to have a homemade gift for her brother so I guess in the end it was worth it. I also made one for Elah's uncle and girlfriend but I still have 2 buttons to sew on.
Pattern: Baby Surprise Jacket by Elizabeth Zimmermann
Yarn: The blue is Rowan Wool Cotton
The orange is Reynolds Revue
Needles: US 6, Knit Picks Options
Time to knit: I don't know exactly but I'm going with 2 months.

Actual Knitting and a Small Velolution
Psssst, look, knitting! (Pardon the photo quality, my camera was out of batteries so these were taken with my phone.)
That's right, one whole complete sock. The pattern is Hedera by Cookie A, the yarn is Mama E (in saffron, I just love the color).
In other news I went to the bike shop on Sunday with the cutest boy ever and got a new bike!
There are 3 days a week (when I don't drive my daughter's carpool) that I can bike to work and in the summer I can bike every day. I'm excited to spend less on gas and more time outdoors. I also discovered that I am really out of shape so it's doubly good for me to get my ass on a bike.
Here's one last pic for you; new sock, new bike, old cat. :)

Bleep Blorp
Click the pic to see more of the same.
Pattern: R2D2 Beanie by Carissa Brown
Yarn: Plymouth Encore
Needles: US7 (4.5mm)
Time to complete: About a week give or take
Notes: I knit the first one flat and used intarsia but it was too small and the sight of all those ends gave me the willies. In the end I knit the adult small, changed colors for the two blue stripes and used duplicate stitch for everything else.

Komi Cap
I finished it on Christmas Eve! I just need to get my hands on it again so I can take a decent pic. I realize that you may not know I was working on this because I didn't blog it "just in case." But if you spend time on Ravelry or flickr then you've probably already seen this.
Here's a WIP picture with better light and an actual camera.
Pattern: Komi Cap from Mostly Mittens
Yarn: Knit Picks Palette
Needles: Addi Turbo US0
Time to Complete: I don't quite remember but I think it was about 20 days, def less than a month.
I'm a little worried that it's a smidge big for the recipient but I don't think he'll tell me so.
This is by far my most satisfying knit yet.
For the truly nerdy, here's a picture of the guts.

WIP It Good
Yet another WIP.
The first of these is done but I need to redo the thumb because it's too tight. This WIP is also on hold until after the Hat of Insanity is done.
Pattern: Herringbone Mittens with Poms
Yarn: Cascade 220 (left over from the Sheep & Wool hat)
Needles: US4 & US6

Nor'easter
Well, I woke up this morning to find this:

Central Park Hoodie
CPH is finally done! (and it only took a year)
I took this pic with my phone, there will be better pictures soon.
This is my first complete adult sweater and I love it. Seriously, it is so fucking awesome I may never take it off. Now, that being said, I may never make another sweater like this. I HATE the sewing up bit and quite frankly I'm not really that good at it. I do try to look at it as a way to better showcase my knitting, blah, blah, it doesn't matter.
The details:
Yarn: Jo Sharp Silk Road DK
Needles: US 5 and US 7 (I think)
Time to knit: a year!
Mods: I substituted a different yarn which also meant I had to change needles to get gauge. I did a single cable up each sleeve rather than a double which I felt would be too bulky.
My favorite part? Check out these awesome buttons! These are handmade by a local man named Francis who got the idea after his wife asked him to make some buttons for one of her projects. I bought mine here but I've also seen them here.

Shutthefrontdoor!
K and I have been very into wall decals lately. We've been poking around the interwebs looking for cool designs like these and these. Little did I know that there was something out there that would appeal to my most basic needs...

Actual Knitting
I'm off to Boston tomorrow to get some color added to my tattoo. Check flickr tomorrow to see pics I send from the phone. In the mean time check out these FOs, lest you think I didn't actually knit any more.
One day I will get out of work before the sun sets. In the mean time you'll have to live with this.
Pattern: Koolhaas from IK Holiday 2007
Yarn: Shokay in meadow
Needles: US5, 3.75mm and US7 4.5mm
This was originally knit for my friend but I think the design is to feminine for him so it will go to my sister for Solstice. It should go with the gift I knit last year. If you knit hat I suggest you learn to cable without a needle, it will make the job go much faster.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
The details:
Yarn: Lamb's Pride Burly Spun in orange you glad, 1 skein
Stitch: seed stitch over 15 sts with the first of each row slipped
Needles: Bamboo US15, 10mm
Inspired by: This awesome knitter
Time to knit: 2 evenings
